here's how to get started with therapy

Taking the initiative to seek support is a brave decision.

I know it can feel overwhelming to find the right therapist, which is why I offer a free 20-minute consultation. It’s a chance for us to connect, talk about what’s bringing you or your child to therapy, and see if working together feels like a good fit. Reach out here to schedule a consultation.

How to get started

If we decide to move forward, our first session will be an intake session. I’ll spend time getting to know you, your story, and what’s going on right now. We’ll talk about your goals for therapy, what you’re hoping will feel different, and begin to lay the foundation for our work together.

In those early sessions, my focus is on building a strong, trusting relationship. That means listening closely, creating a space where you feel safe and understood, and working collaboratively to set goals that matter to you. I’ll also offer insight and education about what you or your child might be experiencing, so we can make sense of it together and begin to chart a path forward.

Fees & Insurance

$225 — 50-minute individual session
$250 — 50-minute family session
$135 — 30-minute individual session

Payment is due at the time of service, unless other arrangements have been made ahead of time. I accept check, credit card, or Zelle. Please note that there is a $10 fee for any returned checks

I’m currently an out-of-network provider and do not work directly with insurance companies. If you’d like to use your insurance benefits, you’ll be responsible for payment at the time of service. I’m happy to provide a monthly superbill (a detailed statement) that you can submit for possible reimbursement.

Every plan is different, so I encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly to ask about coverage for out-of-network psychotherapy. Please also be aware that most insurance companies require a diagnosis code for reimbursement, which may become part of your medical record.

Appointments & Cancellations

I ask that you cancel or reschedule sessions at least 24 hours in advance. You can do this by calling 650-223-5756, emailing admin@anneevansmft.com, or sending a message through the client portal.

If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice—or do not attend your appointment—you’ll be responsible for the full session fee. I understand that emergencies happen and will always do my best to be flexible when I can.

Each session is 50 minutes. If you arrive late, we’ll still need to end on time so I can honor my schedule and other clients. If I’m ever the one who starts late, you’ll still get your full session. If you'd like to request a longer or shorter session, just let me know ahead of time so we can plan accordingly.
